HINDU MYTHOLOGY

HINDU MYTHOLOGY –“Life resembles the motion and process of churning. Every human being has to undergo this process of churning before the nectar of life is extracted. And during this process God manifests Himself and helps in different forms. Two days prior to Diwali, Dhan Teras or Dhanvantri Trayodashi is observed with gaiety.”

HINDUISM –“Mahabali’s Tatal step proved a blessing in disguise for the good king—the foot salvaged and released him from the recurrent cycle of birth and death. Onam is celebrated by wearing new clothes and resolving to lead a new life of truth, piety, love and humility.”

HINDUISM, GARUDA PARANA –“Knowledge makes a man honest, virtuous, and endearing to society. It is learning alone that enables a man to better the condition of his friends and relations. Knowledge is the holiest of holies, the God of the Gods, and commands respect of crowned heads; shorn of it, a man is but an animal. The fixtures and furniture of one’s house may be stolen by thieves; but knowledge, the highest treasure, is above all stealing.”

ISAVASYOPANISHAD –“The face of truth is covered by a golden disc. 0 sun, remove that covering so as to be seen by me who is of the nature of truth.”

ISHA UPANISHAD –“All changing things experienced in this changing world are known by light of consciousness, which carries on unchanged in all apparent change. By going from appearances to consciousness, on which they stand, reality may be attained and truth of self is realised: for both are one in consciousness.”

ISHA UPANISHAD –“All changing things experienced in this changing world are known by light of consciousness, which carries on unchanged in all apparent change. By going from appearances to consciousness on which they stand, reality may be attained and truth of self be realised for both are one in consciousness. Then, whose are outward seeming things, and how can they be coveted? As mind and body act in world, a person seems to lead a life that starts with birth and ends in death.”

ISHA UPANISHAD –“The man who sees all beings in the Self and the Self in all beings is free from all fear.”

ISHA UPANISHAD –“The man who sees all beings in the Self and the Self in all beings is free from all fear.”

JAIN COSMOLOGY –“The special characteristic of space is its capacity to allow common accommodation to all substances. Space, one of the six substances, pervades both the universe and the non-universe. The universe is in the midst of the non universe space which is endless and where space alone exists without the other five substances, namely the souls, the medium of motion, the medium of rest, matter and time.”

JAIN PRAYER –“For violence I have committed mentally, for violence I have committed verbally, for violence I have committed physically, I ask forgiveness.”

JAIN SCRIPTURES –“Do not injure, abuse, oppress, enslave, insult, torment, torture, or kill any creature or living being. There is nothing so small and subtle as the atom nor any element so vast as space. Similarly, there is no quality of soul more subtle than non-violence and no virtue of spirit greater than reverence for life.”

JAIN TEACHINGS –“In order to heal ourselves of the wounds inflicted upon us we must be willing to forgive those who hurt us, totally and unconditionally It does not mean that we must go and tell them that they are forgiven. It doesn’t mean, if we are the offending party we must go to the other and beg for their forgiveness. Realisation of our mistake and true repentance — Prayaschitta — can in itself set a new direction for our life.”

JAIN THOUGHT –“Jivadaya or compassion towards all living beings is an important aspect of the principle of ahimsa and it means caring for all living beings, tending, protecting and serving them. It entails universal friendliness, forgiveness and fearlessness. Its observance leads to actions which have great relevance to contemporary environmental concerns.”

JAIN THOUGHT –“One should avoid speaking anything which may provoke violence, flattery, condemnation or gossip, or use words that may cause harm to others. One should not inflict pain by using words which are abusive…”

JAINA PHILOSOPHY OF ANEKANTAVADA –“No single perspective on an issue contains the whole truth. Substance, time, place and the conditions of the observer all affect the viewpoint, so any event should be considered from different points of view.”

JAINISM –“Everything within the universe, whether sentient (jiva) or insentient (ajiva), is eternal, although the forms that a thing may take are transient. Practise the principle of promoting universal wellbeing (sarva-mangalya).”

KABIR – “Real happiness lies only in love, all the rest is just fuss and anxiety.”

KABIR- ‘Real happiness lies only in love, all the rest is just fuss and anxiety.”

KABIR –“Behold but One in all things; it is the second that leads you astray.”

KABIR –“Do not go to the garden of flowers 0 friend, go not there In your body is the garden of flowers Take your seat on the thousand petals of lotus, And there gaze upon the infinite beauty.”

KABIR –“God first created light. All men are born out of it. The whole world came out of a single spark.”

KABIR –“If thy God lives only in the mosque, to who else belong the rest of the world? The Hindu finds the God’s All-pervading Essence in the image; so both know not the quintessence. 0 Allah, 0 Ram, I live by Thy Name, 0 Master, be Thou Merciful to me? The Hindus see their God in the south, the Muslims in the west; but search thy God only in the heart, for; thy heart is the Seat of God. The Brahmin fasts (yearly) for 24 days, once every Ekadasi, the Qazi in the month of Ramzan; Lo, they keep out God for 11 parts, and find the treasure of Bliss only in a single month… 0 God, all men and women that one sees are but thy Manifestations, And I am thy child, and all Gurus and all Prophets are mine. Says Kabir, “Hear ye men and women seek only the refuge of the One God. And utter only the Lord’s Name that ye are ferried across.”

KABIR –“Ram’s pass is a high one/ Kabir keeps climbing.”

KABIR –“The conscious and unconscious are poles. Between them thought has made a swing. All beings and all worlds hang there. Myriad beings exist there. Myriad ages pass and the swing goes on. Infinite swing: Sky, earth, air and water, and God Himself taking form.”

KABIR –“The creator is the creation and the creation in the creator, He is everywhere… He who surrenders to him gets to know Him. Says Kabir, my doubts are dispelled, I have seen the Pure with my own eyes.”

KABIR –“The heart is pierced with the true passion for, righteousness, the hero is engaged in battle, now is the time to fight unto the last. He alone is a hero who fights to defend the humble and the helpless.”

KABIR –“The mind creates defeats and also victories …”

KABIR –“The Three worlds were plundered; they all were stripped of their all. But Mind is a faceless Thief, whom no one could recognise.”

KABIR –“There stands a tree that has no roots, it bears fruit without flowering. Neither branches nor do leaves have the tree that blooms all the year round. Two birds perch on that tree, one the teacher, the other the disciple. The disciple eats the sweet fruits, the teacher watches calmly. Says Kabir, unknowable are these birds. At the root of the formless is the form: the body must be given due honour.”

KABIR –“Those who seek will find; I remained seated, on the shore, Watching the sea, too un concerned to take a dive, In deep waters lies the Truth.”

KABIR –“Where there is forgiveness, there is God Himself.”

KAIVALYA NAVANEETNA –“This wisdom (realizing the Self) can be gained by a long course of practice of unceasing enquiry into the Self. Disciple: What is this inquiry?’ Master: ‘Inquiry consists in pondering over the questions: Who is this ‘I’ in the body, including mind, senses etc? What is sentience’s What is insentience? What is their combination, called bondage? What is Release?”

KAIVALYA NAVANITAM –“Because its nature is not determinable, maya is said to be Inexpressible. They are in its grip who think, ‘This is mine, I am the body, the world is real’. 0 son, no one can ascertain how this mysterious illusion came into being. As to why it arose it is because of the person’s lack of discerning inquiry.”

KAIVALYOPANISHAD- “I am subtler than the subtlest, I am greater than the greatest, I am the manifold universe. I am ancient. I am the purush (Primal being….).”

KAIVALYOPANISHAD –“Meditating on the lotus of your heart, in the centre is the untainted, the exquisitely pure, clear and sorrowless, the inconceivable, the unmanifest, of infinite form, blissful, tranquil, immortal, the womb of Brahma.”

KAIVALYOPANISHAD –“On account of his connection with the deeds of previous incarnations, the individual selfi (jiva), dreams and awakens. He plays in the three cities…”

KAIVALYOPANISHAD –“On account of his connection with the deeds of previous incarnations, the individual self (jiva), dreams and awakens.”

KALIDASA’S RITUSAMHARA –“Trees put forth flowers, waters abound in lotuses, women’s thoughts turn to love, the air is sweetly scented; mornings are pleasant and days delightful; all things are more alluring in springtime, my love.”

KATHA UPANISHAD –“As in a mirror, so (it is seen) in the soul, as in a dream, so in the world of the manes, as (an object) is seen in water, so in the world of the gandharvas; as shade and light in the world of Brahmn.”

KATHA UPANISHAD –“Fools dwelling in darkness, but thinking themselves wise and erudite, go round and round, by various tortuous paths, like the blind led by the blind.”

KATHA UPANISHAD –“The mortal in whose heart desire is dead becomes immortal. The mortal in whose heart the knots of ignorance are untied becomes immortal. These are the highest truths taught in the scriptures. Radiating from the lotus of the heart there are a hundred and one nerves. One of these ascends towards the thousand-petalled lotus in the brain. If, when a man comes to die, his vital force passes upward and out through this nerve, he attains immortality; but if his vital force passes out through another nerve, he goes to one or another plane of mortal existence and remains subject to birth and death.”

KATHA UPANISHAD –“The self-existent Lord pierced the senses to turn outward. Thus we look to the world outside and see not the Self within us. A sage withdrew his senses from the world of change and, seeking immortality, looked within and beheld the deathless self.”

KATHA UPANISHAD –“The wise man should surrender his words to his mind; and this he should surrender to the Knowing Self; and the Knowing Self he should surrender to the Great Self; and that he should surrender to the Peaceful Self.”

KATHA UPANISHAD –“When are cut all the knots of the heart here on earth, then a mortal becomes immortal!”

KATHA UPANISHAD –“Who sends the mind to wander afar? Who first drives life to start on its journey? Who impels us to utter these words? Who is the Spirit behind the eye and the ear? It is the ear of the ear, the eye of the eye, and the Word of words, the mind of mind, and the life of life. Those who follow wisdom pass beyond and, on leaving this world, become immortal. There the eye goes not, nor words, nor mind. We know not, we cannot understand, how he can be explained: He is above the known and he is above the unknown. Thus have we heard from the ancient sages who explained this truth to us?”

KATHA UPANISHAD-“If a man fails to attain Brahmn before he casts off his body, he must again put on a body in the world of created things.”

KHAGGAVISANA SUTTA –“Having cast off the bonds, like a fish which breaks the net in the water, like a fire that returns not to the spot already burnt up, let one walk alone like a rhinoceros.”

KHANDOGYA UPANISHAD –“The eye is indeed the fourth foot of Brahmn. That foot shines with Aditya (sun) as its light, and warms. He who knows this shines and warms through his celebrity, fame, and glory of countenance.”

KHUDDAKA PATHA –“As a mother with her own life guards the life of her child, let all-embracing f thoughts for all that lives be thine.”

KHUDDAKA PATHA –“Come back, 0 Tigers, to the woods again, and let it not be leveled with the plain, for without you, the axe will lay it low you, without it, forever homeless go.”

KHUDDAKA PATHA –“To the Buddha I go for refuge. To the Norm I go for refuge, To the Order I go for refuge.”

KRISHNA IN ‘KRISHAVATARA BY KM MUNSHI –“Town and Country I would never have loved Radha had I not felt sure that I was going to be in Vrindavan as a cowherd forever But when I was called to Mathura as Vasudeva’s son, it would have been wicked to bring her with me. She was born to be an exquisite flower in the spring and would never have survived the hot winds of the life I was called upon to face… I, with my mission to fulfill, could not have played the gay cowherd, who was the very breath of her life.  So I parted from her.”

KRISHNA, BHAGAVAD GITA –“Never was there a time when I did not exist, nor you, nor all these kings, nor in the future shall any of us cease to be.”

KRISHNAMACHARYA –“Inhale, and God approaches you. Hold the inhalation, and God remains with you. Exhale, and you approach God, old the exhalation, and surrender to God.”

KUBERA MANTRA –“I salute Kubera, lord of Yakshas, who provides the spell for magical weapons that bring wealth and good fortune. May the utterance of this prayer bring forth those magical weapons.”

KULARNAVA TANTRA –“Adepts in yoga speak in the manner of the uncivil, behave as if ignorant, appear like the lowly They do so in order that men may ignore them and not flock to them; they talk nothing at all. Though realised in freedom, the yogi will sport like a child, may conduct himself like a dullard, talk like one intoxicated. If the yogi accepts things of life it is for the good of the world and not out of desire.”

KULARNAVA TANTRA –“No creature shall be harmed for one’s own sake, one’s own enjoyment. All depends upon the purpose; not even a blade of grass shall be cut without a worthy purpose. What is called sin becomes a merit if it is done for a higher purpose, even as what is considered uplifting becomes a force for binding if done in disregard of the higher Truth. Rightly used, rightly directed, the very means of fall become the means for rise…”

LANKAVATARA SUTRA –“The triple world originates from the discrimination of unrealities and where discrimination takes place there is duality and the notion of permanency and impermanency, but the Tathagatas do not rise from the discrimination of unrealities.”

LANKAVATARA SUTRA –“When this entire world is regarded as concatenation, as nothing else but concatenation, then the mind gains tranquility.”

LORD MAHAVIRA –“Anger, pride, deceit and greed are the four powerful enemies which stimulate sinful deeds. One who desires the welfare of his self should renounce these four flaws… Faith, knowledge and conduct together constitute the path of liberation; this is the path to be followed. The saints have averred that if it is followed in the right way it will lead to liberation, otherwise it will lead to bondage.”

LORD MAHAVIRA –“As the fallow leaf of the tree falls to the ground when its days are gone, even so the lives of men (come to a close). Gautama, be careful all the while. As a dew drop dangling from the tip of a blade of kusa grass lasts but a short time, even so the lives of men. Gautama, be careful all the while. A rare chance in the long course of time is human birth for a living thing. Hard are the consequences of action. Gautama, be careful all the while. Though one believes in the law, one will rarely practise it, for people are engrossed in pleasures. Gautama, be careful all the while.”

LORD MAHAVIRA –“By scriptural study one acquires knowledge, is fixed in religion and helps others to be so fixed. Thus by studying multifarious sutras he becomes absorbed in the contemplation of what is expounded therein.”

LORD MAHAVIRA –“I surrender this body for the sake of my soul. This body is not mine. With this feeling I shall use my body. To cross a river, a boat is needed. I shall use my body as a boat to cross the river of life. I shall bear all the pangs of suffering by being immersed in the soul.”

LOTUS SUTRA –“A gracious cloud full of moisture;/ Lightning-flames flash and dazzle,/ Voice of thunder vibrates afar,/ Bringing joy and ease to all./ The sun’s rays are veiled,/ And the earth is cooled;/ The cloud lowers and spreads/ As if it might be caught and gathered;/ It’s rain everywhere equally/ Descends on all sides,/ Streaming and pouring unstinted,/ Permeating the land.”

LOTUS SUTRA –“From the one water which Issued from that cloud, Plants, trees, /thickets, forests, According to their need receive moisture. All the various trees,… Each according to its size, Grows and develops… Wherever the one rain reaches, All become fresh and glossy According as their bodies, forms And natures are great or small, So the enriching rain, Though it is one and the same, Yet makes each of them flourish. In like manner also the Buddha Appears here in the world, Like unto a great cloud Universally covering all things; And having appeared in the world, He, for the sake of the living, Discriminates and proclaims The truth in regard to all laws. The Great Holy World-honoured One Proclaims: I am the Tathagata, The Most Honoured among men; I appear in the world Like unto this great cloud, To pour enrichment on all Parched living beings, To free them from their misery To attain the joy of peace, Joy of the present world, And joy of Nirvana… I preach the Law equally; As I preach to one person, So I preach to all… Never am I weary of Pouring it copious on the world, Like the all-enriching rain.”

LOTUS SUTRA –“The Dwelling of the Tathagata is the great compassionate heart within all the living. The Role of the Tathagata is the gentle and forbearing heart. That seat of the Tathagata is the spirituality of all existence.”

MAHA GHOSANANDA –“When we respect the environment, then nature will be good to us. When our hearts are good, then the sky will be good to us. The trees are like our mother and father, they feed us, nourish us, and provide us with everything; the fruit, leaves, the branches, the trunk. They give us food and satisfy many of our needs. So we spread the dharma (truth) of protecting ourselves and protecting our environment, which is the dharma of the Buddha.”

MAHABHARATA –“A beggar approached Yudhishthir, the eldest of the Pandavas. Yudhishthir asked him to come the next day and the beggar left. Bhimapickedupa drum and started walking towards town Yudhishthir was puzzled. He asked Bhimawhat he was doing. Bhima answered, “I am going to town to announce to everyone there that my brother Yudhishthir has conquered time”. “What do you mean?” a perplexed Yudhishthir enquired. Bhima replied, “A beggar came to you for alms and you made a promise for tomorrow. You asked the beggar to come and collect alms tomorrow. How do you know that you will be alive tomorrow? Or that the beggar will be alive tomorrow? Even if both of you are alive, how do you know that you will be in a position to give alms tomorrow, and how do you know that the beggar will still be in need tomorrow? How do you know that both of you will meet tomorrow? Yet, you’ve made a promise and asked him to come tomorrow. This makes you the first person to have conquered time. So, I am going to town to announce that my brother here has conquered time!”

MAHABHARATA –“No one should leave the path of dharma on any account — neither by temptation nor by fear nor by greed nor for life. Because pleasure and pain are both transitory, dharma is permanent and follows the soul in all directions.”

MAHABHARATA –“On meeting with misfortune to blame fate and to remain unconscious of his own failings and faults characterizes the uncultured man.”

MAHABHARATA –“One who is friend of all and is engrossed in doing good to all always with mind, speech and deed, he alone knows dharma — no others.”

MAHABHARATA –“That again which is virtue may, according to time and place, be sin. Thus appropriation of what belongs to others, untruth, and injury and killing, may under special circumstances, become virtue. Acts that are apparently evil, when undertaken from considerations connected with the gods, the scriptures, life itself, and the means by which life is sustained, produce consequences that are good.”

MAHABHARATA –“The mode of living which is founded upon a total harmlessness towards all creatures upon a minimum of such harm is highly recommended.”

MAHABHARATA –“They that are desirous of victory do not conquer by might and energy so much as by truth, compassion, righteousness, and spiritual discipline.”

MAHABHARATA- “Which friendship ages not? That with good souls.”

MAHABHARATA –“Yudishtra: How might a man overcome difficulties? Bhishma on his death bed: Never practise deceit. Behave with restraint, control all worldly desires. Do not speak when addressed in foul language, do not injure others; give, rather than take. Do not sin in thought, word or deed, never harm any creature. Always speak the truth even though your life may be at stake. Speak words which are agreeable, always spend your wealth well. Bow to all the gods, listen to the doctrines of all creeds, have faith.”

MAHAPARINIRVANA –“0 good men! One who acts good is the “true thinking”. The true thinking is compassion. Compassion is the Tathagata. 0 good men! Compassion is the Buddha Nature of all beings. Such a Buddha Nature is long overshadowed by illusion. That is why beings cannot see. The Buddha Nature is Compassion. Compassion is the Tathagata.”

MAHAPARINIRVANA SUTRA –“Every being has the Buddha Nature. This is the self.”

MAHARAJ JAGATH SINGH –“Alexander offered to give half his kingdom to anyone who could make him live just for as much time as would enable him to see his mother. But the physicians replied that, even if he gave the whole kingdom, they could not add one single breath to his life. Tears welled up in the emperor’s eyes, who said with a deep sigh: “Alas! Had I known that breath is so costly a thing, I would never have wasted them in useless pursuits”. Then he dictated that, during his funeral procession, his hands be kept out of his coffin with palms turned upward so that people might take a lesson from the Great Alexander, who had planned to conquer the world, but was going away from it empty-handed.”

MAHARATNAKUTA –“A liar lies to himself as well as to the gods. Lying is the origin of all evils; it leads to rebirth in the miserable planes of existence, to breach of the pure precepts, and to corruption of the body.”

MAHARATNAKUTA SUTRA  -“A liar lies to himself as well as to the gods. Lying is the origin of all evils; it leads to rebirth in the miserable planes of existence, to breach of the pure precepts, and to corruption of the body.”

MAHARISHI MAHESH YOGI –“Meditation is the effective process of sharpening the mind to increase its capacity for experience, so that it may be able to experience even the finer fields of creation lying beyond this gross field of sense perception and be able to experience the essential nature of the Transcendental Reality, the Bliss Eternal and Absolute.”

MAITRI UPANISHAD –“He who is in the fire, and he who is here in the heart, and hewho is yonder in the sun — he is one.”

MAITRI UPANISHAD –“Infinite One Verily, in the beginning this world was Brahman, the infinite one, infinite in the east, infinite in the south, infinite in the west, infinite in the north and above and below, infinite in every direction. For him, indeed, east and other directions exist not nor across, nor below, nor above. Incomprehensible is that Supreme Atman, unlimited, unborn, not to be reasoned about, not to be thought of (unthinkable), he whose self is space. At the dissolution of all he alone remains awake. Thus from that space, he awakes this (world) which consists of thought only. By him alone is all this meditated on and in him it is dissolved. He is that luminous form which gives heat in the yonder sun, the wonderful light on the smokeless fire, as also the fire in the stomach which looks (digest) food. For thus it has been said, he who is in the fire, and he who is here in the heart and he who is yonder in the sun— he is One. He who knows this goes to the oneness of one.”

MAITRI UPANISHAD –“Some contemplate one Name, and some another. Which of these is the best? All are eminent clues to the transcendent, immortal, unembodied Brahma: These Names are to be contemplated, lauded, and at last denied. For by them one rises higher and higher in these worlds; but where all comes to its end, there he attains to the Unity of the Person.”

MANTRAS –“I am tying a raksha to you, similar to the one tied to Ball, the powerful king of the demons. Oh raksha, be firm, do not waver. The sun radiates its sunlight/ the radish seeds/1 (the sister) tied the rakhi/ brother, may you live long.”

MANU SMRITI –“The person who takes the vow that he will cause no fear to anyone is the person to whom nothing can cause fear anymore. The person who causes no disquiet to the world is the person who is not perturbed by the world.”

MANUSMRITI –“All things are determined by speech; speech is their root, and from speech they proceed. Therefore he who is dishonest with respect to speech is dishonest in everything.”

MANUSMRITI –“If the hair has become white, a man does not on that account become old; though a man may be young, if he is learned the gods look upon him as old.”

MANUSMRITI –“Let there be faithfulness to each other until death. This, in short, should be known as the highest duty of husband and wife.”

MANUSMRITI –“Where justice is destroyed by injustice, or truth by falsehood, while the judges look on, there they shall also be destroyed.”

MANUSMRITI –“Where women are revered, there the Gods reside. Where women are not revered, all actions become futile.”

MATA AMRITANANDAMAY –“A toddler will fall countless times before he can walk properly Similarly failures, which are a part of life, carry within them the message of success. Each failure is a step that takes us closer to towards ultimate victory So don’t feel disappointed or frustrated.”

MATA AMRITANANDAMAY –“Don’t remain in the dark. Darkness is a prison created by your own mind and ego; it is self-imposed and self-created. It is not your real abode, for you belong to the light. You are the light of God. So let go the dark.”

MATA AMRITANANDAMAY –“If there are at least two youths in every village who will set out to serve the world and disseminate spiritual wisdom, we will be able to build a new world of abiding peace, love and fraternity.”

MATA AMRITANANDAMAY –“No matter how rich we are, as long as we have no compassion, we, ourselves, are truly living in utter poverty. The value of compassion is immeasurable.”

MATA AMRITANANDAMAY –“We may deny the existence of God, but the intellect cannot completely prove or disprove God. If the intellect were able to prove God’s existence — if it could contain God within its grasp — it would only mean the intellect is greater than God. If God can be understood through the intellect, then God and religion are not necessary Science and the intellect would be enough. What we have to inquire about is the very source of that Power which exists within ourselves.”

MATA AMRITANANDAMAYI – “In this universe it is love that binds everything together. Love is the very foundation, beauty and fulfillment of life.”

MATA AMRITANANDAMAYI –“Look at people whenever they get excited, anxious or angry They actually go mad. Anger is nothing but temporary madness, and it is the same with excitement and anxiety When you are extremely angry you are crazy; you speak and act in a crazy way It is a temporary state, in which you lose your mental balance. If you give in to your mind too much, and it is not kept under proper control, you lose your equipoise and go crazy.”

MATA AMRITANANDAMAYI –“Only in the depth of pure silence can we hear God’s voice. Silence is like an upright empty glass that is capable of being filled with, and retaining, the water of knowledge.”

MATA AMRITANANDAMAYI –“Peace is something to be attained internally. Wherever we go in search of peace, we take our minds with us. To find real peace, get rid of the mind.”

MATA AMRITANANDAMAYI –“The beauty of words, the charm in your actions, the allure of your movements — all depend on the amount of silence you create within, Human beings have the capacity to go deeper into that silence. The deeper you go, the closer you become to the Infinite.”

MATA AMRITANANDAMAYI –“Think of how much you care about yourself. You want to eat good food, live in a wonderful home, sleep in a comfortable bed, travel in a beautiful car, and you don’t want anyone to hurt or insult you in any way You always want to be happy This is because you love and care about yourself more than anything else. Now imagine what will happen when you become one with everything and everyone. You will love, honour, and care about everyone and everything equally but with infinitely greater depth and power than you have ever loved yourself. In that infinite play of consciousness, where you are one with everything and everyone, everything is permeated with Divinity Every blade of grass and every sand particle is filled with divine energy The awakened one thus has an attitude of deep reverence and humility towards all of Creation. For the awakened soul, life is a play of Infinite Consciousness.”

MATSYA PURANA -“Prosperity forsakes those who always dream of fate and favours those who persevere. One should therefore always be active and alert.”

MATSYA PURANA –“Success forsakes those who always dream of fate; it favours those who persevere. One should therefore always be active and alert.”

MIRA BAI –“I have attained Krishna, the precious I am free of the birth-death cycle No more for me worldly pursuits I have attained Krishna, the precious. No expenses have I Nor fear of looting With His Name on my lips I have attained Krishna, the precious. Navigating with the boat of truth The Lord has accepted me In infinite Grace I have attained Krishna, the precious. Mira’s Beloved Giridhar Nagar Let’s sing His Glory I have attained Krishna, the precious.”

MIRABAI –“Unbreakable, 0 Lord, Is the love that binds me to you: Like a diamond, it breaks the hammer that strikes it.”

MUNDAKA UPANISHAD –“All evil effects of deeds are destroyed, when He who is both personal and impersonal is realised.”

MUNDAKA UPANISHAD –“As the flowing rivers in the ocean Disappear, quitting name and form, so the knower, being liberated from name and form, goes unto the Heavenly Person, higher than the high.”

MUNDAKA UPANISHAD –“Fools, dwelling in the midst of ignorance (avidya), yet considering themselves wise and learned, go round and round, staggering to and fro, like the blind led by the blind.”

MUNDAKA UPANISHAD –“Heavenly formless, is the person (purusha), He is without and within, unborn, Breathless, mindless (a-manas), pure Higher than the high Imperishable. From Him is produced breath, Mind, and all the senses, Space, wind, light, water, -And earth, the supporter of all.”

MUNDAKA UPANISHAD –“Truth is victorious, never untruth. Truth is the way; truth is the goal of life. Reached by sages who are free from self-will.”

MUNDAKA UPANISHAD –“Two birds, united always and known by the same name, closely cling to the same tree. One of them eats the sweet fruit; the other looks on without eating. Seated on the same tree, the jiva moans, bewildered by his impotence. But when he beholds the other, the Lord worshipped by all, and His glory he becomes free from grief, When the seer beholds the self-luminous Creator, the Lord, the Purusha, the progenitor of Brahma, then he, the wise seer, shakes off good and evil, becomes stainless, and reaches the supreme unity.”

PARAMACHARYA, KANCHI KAMAKOTI PEETAM –“The egg-shaped Baana Linga reminds us that Isvara has neither beginning nor end, like the sky Looking at the horizon we feel that the sky and the earth meet at a particular point. But try as we might, we can never reach that meeting point. This point will still be as far away as it was from the place from which we first looked at the horizon. We may circle the earth and return to the point from which we started, without coming to the point where the sky and the earth meet. The Linga symbol brings the unknown within our comprehension.”

PARAMAHANSA YOGANANADA –“Peace is the altar of God, the condition in which happiness exists.”

PARAMAHANSA YOGANANDA –“ “Mental relaxation consists in the ability to free the attention at will from nagging worries over past and present difficulties; from constant awareness of duty; from dread of accidents and other haunting fears; and from greed, passion, or other disturbing or negative thoughts and attachments. Mastery in mental relaxation comes with faithful practice. It is attained when one is able to rid the mind at will of all restless thoughts and fix the attention fully on the peace and contentment within.”

PARAMAHANSA YOGANANDA –“A body that is relaxed and calm conduces to mental peace. Disturbing psychological states can be substantially alleviated by consciously removing their outer physiological manifestations. Fear often causes you to clench your fists and to incline your head slightly forward… If you watch out for such physiological reactions and relax your hands, straighten your body, breathe slowly and deeply and then exhale the breath and keep it out as long as is comfortable, concentrating on the inner calmness of breathlessness, you will feel some relief from the fear.”

PARAMAHANSA YOGANANDA –“Don’t seek experiences in meditation. The path to God is not a circus.”

PARAMAHANSA YOGANANDA –“Every force and object in this universe is a product of the Divine Mind, in the same way that all the things you perceive in a dream are creations of your own mind.”

PARAMAHANSA YOGANANDA –“Few people in this world try consciously to develop the potentials of body, mind and soul. The rest are victims of circumstances of the past. They plod on and on, pushed by wrong habits, helplessly going down under their influence… It lies with each one of us to cut with the sword of wisdom the cords of our bondage, or to remain bound.”

PARAMAHANSA YOGANANDA –“He who walks between boundaries is Man, he who goes beyond them is Trace the visible effect a saint. But he who invisible Cause, the Spirit.”

PARAMAHANSA YOGANANDA –“If you continually write out checks without depositing anything in your bank account, you will run out of money so it is with your life. Without regular deposits of peace in your life account, you will run out of strength, calmness, and happiness. You will finally become bankrupt —emotionally mentally physically and spiritually but daily communion with God will continually replenish your inner bankroll.”

PARAMAHANSA YOGANANDA –“Include the world in your love, and call yourself a cosmic citizen. You are the king; and in the kingdom of your love, include… all living creatures.”

PARAMAHANSA YOGANANDA –“Life has a bright side and a dark side, for the world of relativity is composed of light and shadows. If you permit your thoughts to dwell. On evil, you yourself will become ugly Look only for the good in everything so you absorb the quality of beauty.”

PARAMAHANSA YOGANANDA –“Life was given that we might find the Eternal Life. Peace was given that we might find the Eternal Peace… Relax and throw the searchlight of vitality within to reveal the presence of Spirit.”

PARAMAHANSA YOGANANDA –“Look at yourself In the mirror of introspection. That is the way you can become flawless in the spiritual mirror of your soul.”

PARAMAHANSA YOGANANDA –“Meditation is the way by which you must strive to rise above delusion and know your true nature. If you can hold on to that consciousness in activity as well as in meditation…then you will be above this dream world of gods.”

PARAMAHANSA YOGANANDA –“Ordinary life is like a pendulum, ceaselessly swinging back and forth. The peaceful person remains calm until he is ready to work; then he swings into action. As soon as he is through, he swings back to the centre of calmness. You should always be calm, like the pendulum that is still, but ready to swing into steady action whenever necessary.”

PARAMAHANSA YOGANANDA –“The disturbance of mental equilibrium, which results in nervous disorders, is caused by continuous states of excitement or excessive stimulation of the senses. Indulgence in constant thoughts of fear, anger, melancholy, remorse, envy, sorrow, hatred, discontent, or worry; and lack of the necessities for normal and happy living, such as right food, proper exercise, fresh air, sunshine, agreeable work and purpose in life, all are the causes of nervous disease.”

PARAMAHANSA YOGANANDA –“The life of the ordinary man flies away swiftly and erratically you should not ignore the opportunities, however I small, afforded by your present life and intelligence. Through even the tiniest of windows, by spiritually concentrated vision you can glimpse the vast sphere of all-freeing wisdom, and the goal of all-fulfilling Bliss.”

PARAMAHANSA YOGANANDA –“The material and the spiritual are but two parts of one universe and one truth By overstressing one part or the other, man fails to achieve the balance necessary for harmonious development… Practice the art of living in this world without losing your inner peace of mind. Follow the path of balance to reach the inner wondrous garden of Self-realisation.”

PARAMAHANSA YOGANANDA –“The mental equilibrium, which results in nervous disorders, is caused by continuous states of excitement or excessive stimulation of the senses.

PARAMAHANSA YOGANANDA –“The yearning for our lost perfection, the urge to do and be that which is the noblest, the most beautiful of which we are capable, is the creative impulse of every high achievement. We strive for perfection here because we long to be restored to our oneness with God.”

PARAMAHANSA YOGANANDA –“There is no particular section of the world, nor any special group of people, that may claim truth as an exclusive heritage. It is the rightful possession of every person, and constitutes the equality of all souls before God. If you do not make an effort to know truth, to perceive it beneath the veils that hide it, you will not discover your own real nature and will therefore remain at the mercy of outside forces of “circumstances”. In meditation behold the star of divine wisdom, that its rays disclose the truth ever within yourself.”

PARAMAHANSA YOGANANDA –“We must learn to participate in this cosmic drama with a perfectly poised and equilibrated mind. The spiritual aspirant should counterbalance his restlessness-producing material activity by calmness-producing spiritual meditation.”

PARAMAHANSA YOGANANDA –“When you discover Him, a great joy will come over you, a joy you’ll find nowhere else.”

PARAMAHANSA YOGANANDA –“You are a child of God. You are made in His image, you cannot be violated or hurt by stones, nor bombs, nor machine guns, nor atomic bombs. Remember, the best shelter is in the silence of your soul. And if you can develop that silence, nothing in the world can touch you…you can stand unshaken midst the crash of breaking worlds… Place your heart with God. The more you seek peace in Him, the more that peace will devour your worries and sufferings.”

PARAMAHANSA YOGANANDA –“You have come on earth to entertain and to be entertained. This is why life should be a combination of both meditation and activity if you lose your inner balance that is just the time when you are vulnerable to worldly suffering… Awaken the innate fortitude of the mind by affirming: “No matter what experiences come, they cannot touch me. I am always happy.”

PARAMAHANSA YOGANANDA –“Your trials did not come to punish you, but to awaken you — to make you realise that you are a part of Spirit and that just behind the sparks of your life is the Flame of Infinity.”

PARAMHANSA YOGANANDA –‘Love is the light that dissolves all wells between souls, families and nations.”

PARAMHANSA YOGANANDA –“0 Spirit! Command my soul to arise from the sephulcre of littleness into Thy vastness of everywherene.”

PARAMHANSA YOGANANDA –“Find god. Don’t think he is hiding from you, you’re hiding from him.”

PARAMHANSA YOGANANDA –“Kriya, controlling the mind directly through the life force, is the easiest, most effective, and most scientific avenue of approach to the Infinite.”

PARAMHANSA YOGANANDA –“The human soul is encased successively in three bodies — the idea, or causal body; the subtle astral body seat of man’s mental and emotional natures; and the gross physical body On earth a man is equipped with his physical senses. An astral being works with his consciousness and feelings and a body made of prana. A causal-bodied being remains in the blissful realm of ideas.”

PARMAHANSA YOGANANDA –“You have come on earth to entertain and to be entertained. This is why life should be a combination of both meditation and activity. If you lose your inner balance that is just the time when you are vulnerable to worldly sufferings… Awaken the innate fortitude of the mind by affirming: “No matter what experiences come they cannot touch me. I am always happy.”

PATANJALI –“Avoidance of all slaying, nay, of hurt to mind or body of a living thing; of falsehood in all speech, and even in thought; of all unlawful gain or coveting; of all sense of possessive ownership; such are the yamas. The niyamas are: Observance of utmost purity that may be possible for body of flesh; contentment with whatever may befall; study of sacred science of the Self; restraint of body by determined will; and complete surrender of one’s will to God’s, replacement of one’s own small self by the great Self, by utmost trust in Him.”

PATANJALI –“Be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who observes his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like.”

PATANJALI -“In deep meditation, the flow of concentration is continuous like the flow of oil.”

PATANJALI -“In deep meditation, the flow of concentration is continuous like the flow of oil.”

PATANJALI –“Peace can be reached through meditation on the knowledge which dreams give. Peace can also be reached through concentration upon that which is dearest to the heart.”

PATANJALI –“Peace can be reached through meditation or the knowledge which dreams give. Peace can also be reached through concentration upon that which is dearest to the heart… In deep meditation the flow of concentration is continuous like the flow of oil.”
