How much should I spend on a vacuum cleaner? This is a question that I, as a professional carpet cleaner, hear very often. It is probably one that you have as well if you are reading this article. keep reading and learn the answer to this question and find out what else you should look at when choosing a good vacuum cleaner.
Most people think that they can simply not afford a good vacuum cleaner or that they must spend almost a thousand dollars to get one. This is simply not true and is the work of advertising agencies who push machines that cost a small fortune on us. Just because someone speaks with a British accent or a machine can pick up a bowling ball under the right conditions doesn’t mean that the vacuum is the best. So what should you look for in a vacuum. First you want to look at the construction. Find a store that actually has the models on display so that you can pick them up and play with them. Look for one that is solidly built and does not seem flimsy. Next look at the vacuum brush on the bottom of the machine. Look to see if it has a beater bar which is a raise bump. This bump separates the carpet fibers and will allow for more thorough vacuuming. If it has this, check to see if it has all of the tools that you need like crevice tools and upholstery wands. Make sure that they are easy to use and that you can change between tools and regular vacuuming quickly. If it passes that test check on the filtration and dust collection system. Make sure that it has a HEPA filter and see what method of collection it uses. Dust cups are easy to change but can be messy while bags can be hard to change. This is a personal preference thing so choose which one works for you.
As you can see, there are many things to look at in vacuum cleaners. Overall you should expect to spend at least $150 for a good vacuum. Do not go cheap and get that one on sale for $49. It will soon break and you will be back where you started from. Good luck and happy shopping.
